FAQ Questions
What is Permanent Makeup and how does it work?
Permanent makeup (PMU) is a cosmetic tattooing technique that deposits pigment into the upper layers of the skin to enhance facial features such as eyebrows, eyeliner, and lips. Unlike traditional body tattoos, PMU uses specialized pigments and machines designed to fade gradually over time. Common PMU services include powder brows, nano brows, shaded eyeliner, lash enhancement, and lip blush. Results are semi-permanent and typically last 1–3 years depending on skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare.
How long does permanent makeup last?
Permanent makeup generally lasts 12–36 months. Longevity depends on several factors including skin type (oily skin fades faster), sun exposure, skincare products (retinol, acids), lifestyle, and how well aftercare instructions are followed. Annual or bi-annual color refresh appointments are recommended to maintain optimal results.
Does permanent makeup hurt?
Most clients report minimal discomfort during PMU procedures. A professional topical numbing agent is applied before and during the service to reduce sensitivity. On a pain scale of 1–10, most clients rate PMU between a 2–3, similar to light scratching or pressure. Sensitivity varies by area, with lips and eyeliner typically being more sensitive than brows.
What is the healing process for permanent makeup?
Healing occurs in stages over 7–14 days, with full color stabilization taking 6–8 weeks. Immediately after the procedure, the area will appear darker and more defined. Light flaking or peeling may occur around days 3–7. During healing, pigments may soften or temporarily fade before resurfacing. Following aftercare instructions is critical to prevent pigment loss or complications.
Will my permanent makeup look too dark or too unnatural?
It is completely normal for permanent makeup to appear darker and bolder immediately after the procedure. Brows can look up to 30–40% darker during the first week. As the skin heals and exfoliates, the color softens and becomes more natural. Our approach prioritizes facial balance, natural enhancement, and long-term color stability.
Is permanent makeup safe?
Yes, permanent makeup is safe when performed by a trained, licensed professional using sterile, single-use needles and high-quality pigments. Our studio follows strict sanitation protocols in compliance with state health regulations. A detailed consultation and health history review are completed prior to treatment to ensure you are a good candidate for PMU services.
Who is not a candidate for permanent makeup?
Permanent makeup may not be suitable for individuals who are pregnant, undergoing chemotherapy, prone to keloid scarring, have uncontrolled diabetes, active skin infections, or certain autoimmune conditions. Clients using Accutane within the past 12 months or blood-thinning medications may also need medical clearance. A consultation is required to determine eligibility.
What is the difference between powder brows, nano brows and microblading?
The goal for any brow service is to look as natural as possible when healed. My powder brow technique leaves a soft, "makeup powder" appearance with no harsh boarders.
My nano hair-stroke technique is designed to heal resembling hair with the illusion of texture. Both of these techniques are done with a machine that holds a tiny nano needle, implanting pigment one pixel at a time. This creates less trauma to the skin, giving you a more comfortable healing experience and better retention.

Microblading is done with a tool that resembles a scalpel made of needles, cutting into the skin and then pushing pigment into the skin.
Why is a touch up appointment necessary?
A touch-up appointment (typically 6–10 weeks after the initial session) allows the artist to perfect shape, adjust color, and reinforce areas where pigment may have faded during healing. This step is essential for long-lasting, even results and is considered part of the PMU process, not optional.
How should I prepare for my permanent makeup appointment?
Clients should avoid alcohol, caffeine, blood thinners (unless prescribed), and sun exposure for 24–48 hours before the appointment. Retinol and exfoliating products should be discontinued at least 7 days prior. Arrive with clean skin and no makeup on the treatment area. Detailed pre-care instructions are provided upon booking.
